'Transcending Presumption,' along with 'Imprint' and 'To Places We've Never Been,' have been remastered and mixed, forming a trilogy of albums recorded during the same time period with the same personnel. The sonic continuity was captured with one-take recordings based on musical themes and ideas presented only minutes prior to recording. Free improvisation, minimalist atmospheres, and songbook melodies form a tapestry of sound influences, transcending the presumptions we often place on music, art, the creative realm and life itself.

The Van Meyers was formed by guitarist Doug Meyers and percussionist Kevin Van Walk to explore unorthodox aspects of jazz and improvisation. Originally a duo, Meyers and Van Walk opened the doors to include musicians of all backgrounds and interests as a sort of creative music collective.
